Erzurum, one of the rising European winter sports cities, is ready to host yet another international sports event. City now awaits its young visitors from around the continent.  

Atheltes will compete in Alpine Skiing, Snowboard, Biathlon, Cross Country Skiing, Ski Jumping, Curling, Ice Hockey, Short Track and Figure Skating. 650 athletes from around the Europe will pursue medals.

Exchange with Bosnia Herzegovina

European Youth Olympic Festival takes places in two-year cycles and it is organized by European Olympic Committees (EOC). Festival has both summer and winter editions. In 2011, summer edition of EYOF took place in Trabzon, Turkey. This is the first time Turkey will host the winter edition. 

Turkey was going to host 2019 Winter EYOF but the country exchanged the events with Bosnia Herzegovina, who supposed to host 2017 Winter EYOF.

More than two thousand people worked tirelessly for the EYOF 2017 Erzurum and among them, there were 600 volunteers.

Venues are ready

Thanks investments of Ministry of Youth and Sports in recent years, Erzurum has become a center for winter sports with its brand new venues.

Alpine Skiing and Snowboard races will take place at Palandöken Skiing Center. Kandilli Nordic Center will host the Cross Country Skiing and Biathlon races. Kiremitliktepe Ski Jumping Hills will host the young ski jumpers. Curling competitions will take place at Erzurum Curling Arena. Short Track Arena will host the Short Track races. Figure skaters will compete at Skating Arena in Yenişehir. And finally, ice hockey games will be played at Ice Hockey Arena.    

Turkey will be represented by 69 athletes

Turkey’s EYOF team will include 69 athletes, including 24 girls and 45 boys.

Organisation will be broadcasting on Olympic Channel

EYOF 2017 Erzurum will be broadcasting live on organisation’s official YouTube channel.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) will be also broadcasting EYOF 2017 Erzurum live on Olympic Channel, official YouTube channel of IOC.

Opening Ceremony on Sunday, February 12

13th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival’s Opening Ceremony will take place on Sunday, February 12.

The ceremony will be at Kazım Karabekir Stadium which also hosted 2011 Universiade’s Opening Ceremony and the entries will be free of charge.

The ceremony will start at 19:30 local time but spectators can enter the stadium starting from 17:00.
