Erzurum hosted the 13th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival from 11 to 18 February. Almost 700 athletes from 34 countries competed in nine different sports.

Russia finished the event at top of the medal table with 19 gold, 9 silver, 11 bronze and total of 39 medals. France followed Russia with a total of 21 medals including 7 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals. Slovenia finished in third place with 5 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Historical achievements by Turkish athletes

Turkish athletes had historical achievements at European Olympic Youth Winter Festival as Turkey hosted the event for the first time.

Turkey never won medal at European Youth Olymic Winter Festival since it started in 1991. Aydan Karakulak won Turkey’s first Winter EYOF medal in snowboard. Hazar Karagöl won silver in short track boys’ 1000 metres. Turkey’s girls’ curling team also won silver medal at EYOF 2017 Erzurum.
