Turkey’s First Winter EYOF Medal

After Monday's competitions, Snowboard Parallel Giant Slalom medallists. Russian athletes have won gold medals both in Girls' and Boys' side. Dmitry Loginov was the winner of boys’ race and Elena Boltaeva won the girls competition.

Russian athlete Anastasia Kurochkina won the silver medal and Turkish athlete Aydan Karakulak won the bronze medal. With this result, Turkey won its first ever Winter EYOF medal.

Karabulak said that she was very happy to represent Turkey and added "I competed with the all I got and I'm honoured to represent my country."

Turkey’s first win in curling

First clashes of the groups saw Turkey versus Norway and Poland versus Russia with Turkish and Russian teams winning.

Norway started off the competition with a 2 point lead on the first end, but the hosting nation fired back with two four point ends early on, building a significant advantage. The deficit was preserved until the seventh end, on which the Norwegians started to get their comeback and keeping up with with the sports world's latest trend.

A total of five points in the following two ends for the trailing Norway took the match to an extra end, where the Scandinavians fell short and lost on the last stone. Turkey played the extra end better to reach their first victory of EYOF 2017.

First day in cross country skiing

Slovenian athlete Anja Mandjelic completed the first 2,5 km part of the race with the time of 6:30.07, in the second 2,5 km part of the race with the time of 7:18.62 and completed the whole track with the time of 13:49.3 and took the first place. Russian athlete Elena Kucheva took the second place in Girls’ cross country skiing competitions with the time of 14:04.9 and the third place is taken by again a Russian athlete, Aleksandra Trofimova with the time of 14:17.9. Ayşenur Duman the only Turkish athlete who will compete in 5km Individual Classic took the 29th place with the time of 15:48.4.

Anja Mandjelic who won the race said that he’s very happy and added: “That’s my first win on such a high level. So, I am very satisfied. I think it was quite okay for me. I was a bit exhausted uphill. So, I am happy that I managed this win.”

Rinata Abdulkaiumova from Russia took the first place in Alpine Skiing Girls' Giant Slalom 

Avea Slope hosted exciting Alpine Skiing Girls' Giant Slalom competitions at EYOF 2017 Erzurum. Rinata Abdulkaiumova from Russia completed the race as the gold medallist in Giant Slalom.

Rinata Abdulkaiumova 17yr old Russian athlete took the first place in the first run of Girls' Giant Slalom competitions. Slovenian athlete Ziva Otonicar followed her. French athlete Doriane Escane took the third place.

Russian athlete who took the first place again in the second run reached the final with the time of 2:12.62 in total. Doriane Escane completed the second stage with the time of 2:13.83 in total. Nikola Bubakova who finished the first run as the 4th, completed the race in the third place with the time of 2:13.95 

Dila Çakmak who represents Turkey crashed in the first run and did not complete the race. On the other hand, Sıla Kara completed the first run as the 37th but disqualified in the second stage. Lara Pelin Tamer completed the race in the 48th place.

Russia beats the host country in ice hockey

Russia successful country in winter sports, started strong. The team scored a goal in the second minute of the game and completed the first period with the score of 15-0.

Russia increases the pressure in the second period and gets in the last period with the score of 27-0.

Russia ended the match with the score of 42-0 with their organized attacks.

At the end of the game, Fahri Celepli selected as the best player of the Turkish National Team and Makar Chufarov, numbered 30 selected as the best player of Russia.

Sports fans who came to watch the game applauded The Turkish National Team for a long time.

Flawless Performance from Zagitova

21 athletes in the category of girls came out onto the ice rink for the short program competitions at the Figure Skating Hall in Yenişehir, Erzurum.

Russian athlete Alina Zagitova who competed at the first session in the morning showed almost flawless performance and took the first place. Russian athlete who got a golden medal at Figure Skating Grand Prix Finals in the 2016-2017 season took 58.30 points from the jury.

Anastasia Gozhva, the first name on the ice rink, became one of the two athletes who passed the 50 points but took the second place with 50.01 points anyway.

Ekin Saygı who represent Turkey at EYOF 2017 took the 16th place by 30.61 points with her performance accompanied by the Nocture of Chopin.

Croatia’s President of Republic Grabar Kitarovic’s daughter Katarina Kitarovic took the 11th place by 36.58 points with her performance accompanied by Karl Jenkis’ Imagined Oceans.



First day’s competition have ended at European Youth Olympic Winter Festival.
