13th European Youth Olympic Festival will be held in Erzurum, one of Europe’s biggest winter sport cities. And for the first time, Turkey will participate in curling.

Organisation will take place on Februrary 11-18. Turkey’s curling team will include Berivan Polat, Mihriban Polat, Kader Macit, Zeynep Öztemir, Hilal Nevruz (girls), Ahmet Alperen Tung, M. Haydar Demirel, Oğuzhan Karakurt, Batuhan Buğra Kaygusuz and İshak Özsubaşı (boys).

National team that coached by Ahmet Çelik and Sadık Topaloğlu, is training at Erzurum Curling Arena. Both teams, boys and girls, want to win a medal at the EYOF 2017.

Sadık Topaloğlu: “We are excited”

Women’s Curling National Team coach Sadık Topaloğlu said that despite they are a newly resembled team, he still believes their medal chances. He also added: “Our EYOF team resembled last May. Because it’s new sports, we are working with new athletes. There are stronger countries than us but we still want to be at the top of medal standings. We are working hard to achieve this.”

“We have the home turf”

Sadık Topaloğlu also said that playing in Turkey is an advantage for them and added: “EYOF 2017 is an opportunity for us. Our athletes are in Erzurum, which has the Turkey’s only curling rink. We can be successful by working hard.”

“I think curling will be more popular”

Topaloğlu said that thanks to the EYOF 2017 Erzurum, people will be more interested in curling. “With the support from Ministry of Youth and Sports, our federation, Erzurum Provincial Directorate of Youth Sports, we getting better and better in curling. Hopefully, we’ll be representing our sport and country successfully. 



Turkey will participate in curling for the first time at European Youth Olympic Festival which will take place in Erzurum. Curling national team wants to make history with a successful result.
